Thank you Late Night!

Wow, last night late night television brought back some quality entertainment. I used to stay up late and catch the live performances from Conan, Jay, Letterman, etc. I haven’t done it in a while.

Anyone else catch Wilco on Leno and Eisley on Conan??

Stay tuned tonight!! Collective Soul’s on the Tonight Show!

I’m done with PC

I’m all yours Mac! I’m done.

I dropped off my Toshiba laptop today because it had another melt down to Nerdworks. The tech says that Windows update is freakin’ out and keeps auto shutting down Explorer. Which is why my laptop is a giant paper weight. Now I’ll have to save what I can and reformat the drives.

Anyone in the market for a newly formatted Toshiba  laptop :)

How Far We’ve Come! Will it ever stop?

I mean what a week! It just won’t stop!

It was my senior year of high school, probably the spring of 1997. I used to stroll around Circuit City, for all you newbies, that was the place to go because the electronics mogul that is now Best Buy hadn’t exploded yet. Circuit City would have new upcoming artists CDs on sale for like $9.99 or $7.99 or something ridiculous like that and I was a total sucker for them. That day I picked up 2 CDs. I couldn’t decide between the confused fat guy staring at me or the girl peeking through her hands at me so I bought them both on impulse. It was all over after that. Matchbox 20 (that was before they began spelling the “20″) and Third Eye Blind instantly became favorites of mine.

Rob and the boys have had considerable more success but I still dig what Stephan and them do to this day!

Matchbox Twenty however will forever be one of those timeless bands I always listen to. They’ve always been there for me! The 1st two songs I ever learned on the guitar were at the same time and they were: Let Her Cry by Hootie and Hang by Matchbox Twenty. Hang was the song I’d play and sing after everyone was toasted with a good buzz and want to hear before they fell asleep in our dorm room! HA. I saw Matchbox in concert that 1st year at LSU at the Varsity. It was the Spring semester, I remember vividly because it took my roommates an entire semester to get me drinking. And that night was my first encounter with Jagermeister: an awful concoction of cough syrup and alcohol. Even still, I remember the band blowing me away in this quaint college town venue and furthering my love for the band.

A few years later the band came around again. This time though they had received stellar reviews and a sophomore release that was sending everyone MAD! Too big for the Varsity this time around, we trucked down to New Orleans and saw them in the New Orleans Arena. Still bigger than life and just filled the place up! It was incredible!

I don’t think they came around after the 3rd release? If so I’d have been there. It looks like I’ll get the chance again here about 10 years later to see them again! How Far We’ve Come is the new single for the new CD coming out apparently in 33 days 1 hour 39 minutes and counting. It’s exploding on the radio and was even featured in an episode of The Hills already! Preorder info isn’t even up yet and no mention of it on iTunes yet but as soon as they do I’ll let you know!

SO MUCH MUSIC THIS WEEK! Forgive me if I’m in my own world with my ear buds this week and miss you :)

Crowder with John and Sherry makes a Remedy of Everything Glorious

My ears did not register what was actually happening. I truly didn’t believe it but it was true nonetheless. John and Sherry this morning on Klove had David Crowder on this morning discussing the finer things of the upcoming CD, Remedy, out in stores Sept. 25 but available for pre-order NOW!

It was hilarious. Not that I’m a John and Sherry hater. I mean he is quite a cornball but he is a radio DJ. Crowder could talk for days about dirt and it would be hilarious, insightful, spiritual, and he’d relate it to culture in some way, form, or fashion.  In fact, even talking about dirt he’d even drop the word culture, or culturally somehow! HAHAHA.

We got a special treat this morning and heard the studio mix of the title track, Remedy. My response:

  • hairs standing up on my neck
  • hairs standing up on my arms
  • lump in my throat
  • accelerated heartbeat
  • some dirt flew in my eyes and they wanted to water ever so slightly

I’ve even heard the song already live at Thirsty but hearing the studio mix was so exhilarating I couldn’t believe it. I think it’ll be the first song off the new record we do!

I can’t find that you can download the interview session so I’ll share with you a recap of the story behind Everything Glorious. As all of Crowder’s stories, it’s one of absurdity and whimsical fun :)

His dad had this friend, Gary I believe was his name, who epitomized coolness. It oozed forth from Gary onto everything he touched, lil David Crowder was enamored by. Well one day Gary bought an old van from a pawn shop like one can only do in East Texas. Seriously! Buying an automobile from a pawn shop?? Yes that’s what he said. Well it was this beat up old van that had a multitude of problems (as one can imagine being bought from a pawn shop) but it was the coolest ole’ beat up van that young Crowder had ever seen.

One time the accelerator pedal went out so that when you pushed down on the pedal: no movement. Well Gary being the cool genius you can imagine had the idea of drilling a hole into the intrusion of plastic that is between the 2 front captains chairs of old timey vans and attaching a rope to the accelerator arm of the motor! Now all you have to do is pull this rope and voila! Problem solved! Gary even notched the rope at certain intervals for…cruise control! Wanna go 40? Notch number 3 and sink it down into the plastic motor casing :)

Sometimes, we forget whose we are. That we are children of a great Father and that no matter how beat up and banged up we are that we are loved and desired by a Creator who makes us cool and loved. As we look at ourselves, we may feel like we’re not much of anything at all, until we remember whose we are and what that makes us!

Thank you again Mr. Crowder!

Thumbs Up/Down: Collective Soul, RSB, By the Tree, Foo Fighters…

Thumbs upCollective Soul : Afterwords – ***WARNING*** I love Collective Soul! I’ve seen them in concert. I have just about all their CDs. It’s weird, for me there’s Tonic and Collective Soul that will inevitably fall off my radar and then just as inevitably find themselves back in my rotation and instantaneously I’m in a happier world because of it!

I hadn’t even the slightest clue they had a new CD coming out. I’m buying it tomorrow. The clips I listened to tonight on iTunes are RAD! Yes, RAD! Immediately I’m brought back to seeing them in concert at the Varsity with Rae and being stupified by how insanely awesome these guys were! Ross Childress is one of my heroes (we had a moment at the Varsity, he looked me in the eyes, nodded, and tossed his pic right at me! He’s wicked cool!)…that’s the only letdown of this album. He’s no longer with the guys. They’ve got a newbie that I’ll scrutinize to death and probably feature him on another post.

Thumbs upRobbie Seay BandGive Yourself Away - Another band I love. He’s got such a raw voice it makes me tremble sometimes. Give Yourself Away is a much needed followup to Better Days and does NOT disappoint! I’m so happy too! Can I say that this CD is beautiful! It’s beautiful! Literally, figuratively, imaginatively! Its simply beautiful! Vocally, guitar riffs, drum tracks, lyrically! Beautiful!

Thumbs downBy the TreeBeautiful One The Best of By The Tree – …and I just threw up in my mouth…please stand by while I go brush my teeth…ok that’s better. You know, By The Tree was an insanely creative, fresh, fun band that I enjoyed listening to. In that regards, this CD is great because it highlights some of the great songs off those fun, creative, inspiring years before Kevin left: the songs from Invade My Soul. There are a couple of other standouts that I’ll give you like Hold You High…and…uh…no that’s the only one I’ll give you. I’m sorry but you can’t name your greatest hits CD off a song that YOU DIDN’T WRITE! Sorry, that’s a little pet peeve of mine. I can’t stand these bands now getting famous off UK artist’s singles! I mean and here they’re featuring Beautiful One AND Rain Down! COME ON!

Thumbs downNellyWadsyaname – Please stop churning out crap and being illiterate…dang it…threw up in my mouth again…

Thumbs upFoo FightersThe Pretender – So we’re all left with a good taste in our mouth. Let us enjoy one of the musical magical masterpieces, a man with more talent in his left hand than most artists who make it big, a band who gets the ‘groove,’ Jimbo listen to that glorious old school meets arena rock riff in the bridge drop out!! and a video that’s not some band rocking out on a beach or the top of a building:

5 Things Better Than Monday Aug 27th

I thought I’d give you an example of a Random 5 Things Better Than Monday:

5. Jambalaya Park’s SprayGround : Rae found this place out in Gonzales that is a free outdoor “SprayGround” for kids. Fountains and sprinklers and soakers and water shooting all over on a padded playground for little kids to go running around on a hot Louisiana Summer afternoon. Did I say “free.” Totally fun!

4. Now is the Time : I can’t stop listening to it! I can’t! If you missed the review then check it out. Delirious hit a grand slam with this one!

3. Fantasy Moguls : yeah I’m still pimping it. I’m totally stoked about the new season starting and I’m giddy like I was in grade school waiting for the next issue of my favorite comic book to be released! My inner geek is being reborn! (And it was X-men if you were wondering…and that’s measured by how many copies I bought.)

2. Mesa Boogie Lone Star : I got the opportunity this weekend to play through Jim’s rig and it was stupid awesome! This amp is crazy! I loved it.

1. Teaching my child to walk up to you and say “Judo Chop” as she hits you in the jugular! (After you kneel down to her!) HAHAHA! If you haven’t witnessed her power just wait for it! Your day will come!

What is: 5 Things Better Than Monday???

Its the new post I’d like to test out here come every Monday. Inspired by Superman’sTop 5 Songs You Listened To This Week” and Klampert’sTop 5 CDs You Listened To This Week” but throw in a little bit of Entertainment Weekly Magazine’s “Top 10 Things You Don’t Want To Miss This Week.”

What I’d like to do is spread a little love, get to know you better, find some resources, and get some laughs! Everyone hates Monday. You may even get a ‘case of the Mondays.’ And if that’s you then you want to come visit WorshipCity every Monday for the one thing that you are guaranteed to get an ‘Attaboy’  for. Where you’ll receive a hearty high five. Where, regardless the status of your TPS reports, you can win one for yourself today and go about the rest of the week with a smile :)

5 Things Better Than Monday: I’ll start off and you continue the thread. Post your Top 5 Things that right now are better than Monday. It’s that easy. It’s so easy your confused right now. Let me give you some examples:

  • Top 5 Songs in your iPod
  • Top 5 Favorite Sayings from Finding Nemo
  • Top 5 Favorite Sayings of All Time
  • Top 5 Websites you visit OR get super crazy and
  • Top 5 Things right now that you’re excited about! Any 5 Random Things!
    • A Saying, Song, Movie, Joke, and Superhero

It’s that easy. The thing that scares me is that both Superman and Klampert have stopped their Friday posts which means either they’re slacking :) or it’s totally lame and nobody contributes to them. I LOVE them by the way. I hate when people hijack other people’s posts but I’m hoping this is different enough to be overlooked! So have fun with it!
