Preview Chris Tomlin’s Hello Love – You Lifted Me Out

This week’s song is You Lifted Me Out, the latest song prereleased off Tomlin’s upcoming CD Hello Love. Matt Redman helps out a bit with this uptempo worship tune taken from Psalm 40. Check it out.

My likes:

  •  The intro tag!
  • Daniel’s guitar tone. Never disappoints.
  • The bridge! The quirky drums and delay and piano are a cool change-up.
  • It’s definitely a song people can clap and dance to.
  • The first chord hit. Sounds like we’re gonna get into a Foo Fighters song!

My dislikes:

  • The tag-verse-chorus feel. The verse melody line is coated with a layer of cheese (I’m so gonna get slammed for that 🙂 and it doesn’t sit well with me between the tag and chorus.  It’s a sore thumb for me, very bubblegummy adult contemporary in a song that could have just kicked you in the teeth.
  • The first chord hit. Sounds like we’re gonna get into a Foo Fighters song (Long road to ruin there in your eyes under the cold streetlight)…but we don’t 😦

So what do you think? Just remember, we’re all entitled to our opinions 🙂

after listening once, i don’t know if i like it or not. the chorus kinda keep me thinking about “i am free” by newsboys or some obscure bryan adams tune. its one of those tunes that may or may not grow on you but definitely not spectacular.

I concur! and still laughing! “some obscure Bryan Adams tune.” That’s hysterical dude.

I think Tomlin needs to pull a Chris Martin, and have someone come in and totally re-do how he does his songs. Way to predictable and just like everything out there.
