My Holy Hangover

First off: Mad props to Shawn for the term Holy Hangover.
So what is a Holy Hangover? It’s what we in the ministry affectionately call that feeling we get on Monday Morning. Especially after a day like yesterday:

  • 1:30 – going to bed b/c we are at the beach and get to sleep in tomorrow morning!
  • 7:30 – Up and packing
  • 8:30 – Breakfast
  • 9 – Lead worship for last weekend retreat session
  • 10:30 – Say goodbye and pack up
  • 11:30 – Grab a bite to eat
  • 12 – On the road!…with 2 kids..ugh….
  • 4:10 – Backing trailer into the driveway…Orange Beach -> Baton Rouge in 4 hrs! BOOYAH!
  • 4:15 – Pulling out of the driveway in Rae’s car
  • 4:38 – Youth group! (8 mins late)
  • 6:20 – Wrapping up Youth (20 mins late but was so worth it! Amazing youth tonight!)
  • 6:30 – Changed and off to downtown
  • 7 – Arrived at Whitney’s Celebration Service for 10 Years at First Pres.
  • 8:10 – Hugging and goodbyes
  • 9 – Eating lunch…dinner…um…whatever
  • 9:30 – Check emails put on Psych! It was a Bollywood theme!
  • 11 – Heading to bed. Probably one of the earliest in months…years?

And voila: Monday Morning’s Holy Hangover.

How are you feeling this morning?

Kanye West: Before and After

I am SO SICK of saying, “Man I really love that guy’s music, I just wish he’d keep his stupid mouth shut when he’s not singing.” When a stunt last night can be referred to as “Taylor Swift getting Kanye-d” then enough is enough. I don’t care that he was downing a bottle of Hennesy. I no longer care how talented he is. I know MTV shares the blame with this and it’s another reason why I don’t remember the last time I watched that station.

Here’s Kanye West before last night:

Here’s after:

The Speed of the Internet!

Minutes…hours…after Kanye West showed how much of a ass he is on MTV VMAs (sorry G rated audiences that’s probably the nicest way to describe that jerk) this pops up on youTube! Hilarious. Stunning. Speedy.

Paramore Covers Kings of Leon’s Use Somebody

It’s simple: Paramore + Kings of Leon + Acoustic Guitars = Yummy awesomeness! As Mark put it: “pretty much reinforces how good both bands are.”

I’m so stoked for the new Paramore CD!
Thanks Mark! You’re blog is awesome. [ht: Mark the Shark]

Purge Strategy Session #2

Quick update on Session #1 is that it’s going TREMENDOUSLY WELL! Today I had more free time on my hands that a typical Tuesday but it was great buzzing straight in my Red (high priority) folder and knocking them out this morning and then Yellow for lunch and sit down with the rest when I got home and had time to meander around! I think this new system is really going to work!

Session #2 was going through my Twitter @’s or Mentions and adding everyone who I’m in contact with to my blogroll. Fortunately, it wasn’t that many more but I realized I had been missing some of you. You went straight to Red! It’s my hope to have overlapping circles of community so that they all intercede and work with one another instead of against one another. It would be like trying to do music, do youth, do church, do social outings all with completely separate sets of friends all while trying to be a Dad and a husband! Crazy!

The final stage of Session #2 is compiling my Twitter feed as I did my Google Reader…only I’m stuck! I can’t decide between Seesmic and TweetDeck. Someone had tipped me off to HootSuite and the video and interface are sweet but they’re web based 😦 and I’m not thinking that’s going to work the best for me. I like the desktop interface of the previous 2. I suppose I just can’t decide between Userlists or Columns.

HELP! Which do you use? Seesmic or TweetDeck?

Purge Strategy Session #1

For a desperate attempt to get me up and blogging again I’m taking my social networks by storm starting with my Google Reader!
Previously I had tried to create some specific folders to categorize all of you in. That failed and many of you ended up unfoldered. GReader now looks like this:

Google Reader Folders

It’s pretty self explanatory but in case you need help:
Local – All my locals blogging
Red – STOP and read ASAP
Yellow – Read these next
Green – If I have time I’ll get to you. I also put people I’m not really sure why I’m following in here as well. If I don’t recognize you this week then…buh-bye, otherwise you’re golden…literally 🙂 get it! Haha.
Church News – Church blogs or those pertaining specifically to doing church.
Entertainment News – Specific entertainment blogs

So that’s how I went this time around.

Next comes Twitter with similar categories in Tweet Deck.

Then Facebook.

Finally this here blog!

But this does mean…I’M BACK people!

DCLA in Video w/ Family Force 5

DCLA Friday through Saturday.

Today was a week’s worth of thrills and spills! It’s hard to believe that we accomplished all the we did today in actually 1 day. So to make this a bit more manageable, here’s DCLA pre-DCLA.

This morning we woke up and the weather here in DC is unbelievable! Cool, windy, just beautiful. We took in a few museums before lunch, the Air and Space and American History. I thought that both of these would be terrible downders but in the Air and Space I found the space part totally exciting and some photographs of costellations that are linked to go check it out because it’ll blow your mind! Especially if you dug Uncle Louie’s How Great is our God series!

In the American History museum the ocean exhibit rocked my world! Wowzers! It was amazing and also depressing. I found out that it is true that Coke’s been lying to us with their false advertising all these years. There’s no way that cute little panda bear could share his Coke with penguins because they live on totally different poles from one another!

The true spectacle of the day was the Holocaust museum. I’ve got to say that this was a ‘whatev’ kind of thing going into it. Everybody said you can’t miss it so we went and wow, I needed another hour or so in there! It’s truly a remarkable museum. It’s 3 floors of history and story and it just gets so intense. I made it all the way to near the end when there’s this little auditorium that shows video interviews of survivors telling their stories…I lost it…a grown man crying by himself with a room full of strangers is pretty embarrassing but its powerful and it just hits you.
It leaves me with so many questions though. It’s filled with stories of heroism and grace, as well as an embodiment of evil and hatred that is palpable. It really boggles my mind.

So I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the DC area! It’s well worth it. We had nearly 2 and 1/2 hours and I could have easily used another 30 mins to an hour.

THEN came our 1st night of DCLA which was WOAH CRAZY YEAH AMAZING WOWZERS! But I’m going to be a Circle Coach in the morning so it’s time for bed. More later!

DCLA twitterers/bloggers/etc. we need to hit up a time to meet in the Youth Pastor’s Oasis and network.

Transformers takes its Revenge on the Box Office but Beware!

Transformers Revenge of the Fallen

Transformers 2 or it’s full title: Transformers Revenge of the Fallen is about to take in $100m and is on pace to set a record breaking opening for a 5 day take. Bravo! As someone who loves entertainment, that is a huge feat and something admirable. However, call it ‘old age’ or call it my ‘youth pastor eyes’ settling in, I’ve got to ask: is it really?

I really wanted to love this movie! I had some beef with the transforming and actual movements/clarity of the actual Transformers in the first one, it just seemed sloppy and you couldn’t really tell what was happening in the fight scenes. WOW, they totally fixed that! It’s quite stunning the effects and how good they’ve gotten them for these ginormous metallic beasts!

However, my beef with this movie is Michael Bay’s pushing the envelope for his PG-13 rating. It’s no secret I truly despise Bay’s Actiomedies, but for a movie based off of a child’s play toy this is NOT A MOVIE FOR CHILDREN…can I say that again? For a movie based on toys this is NOT A MOVIE FOR THE CHILDREN WHO PLAY WITH THESE TOYS! To not do more damage than good here I’m simply list my issues and allow that to be your warning:

  • Language – sure there isn’t an f-bomb dropped but nearly every other foul word is and multiple times
  • Sensuality – we had just a taste of it in the first one. From dogs humping to robot scrotums to college shenanigans to that weird guy’s butt in addition to having another sexy vixen added showing off her assets on top of what we already get from Meghan Fox.
  • Drug usage – Mom gets a dose of some ‘green brownies’ and trips out on campus
  • Violence – sure it’s mostly battle scenes with robots but wowzers there’s alot
  • Length – it’s 2 and a half hours long! Crikey! My attention span is hard enough to hold for that long!

Now you might say: DANG THAT MAKES FOR A GREAT MOVIE! And as a 30 yr old I might agree with you! As a Dad bringing my kid or a Youth leader bringing  my group I’d say “Woah Nelly!” Just make sure you know what you’re getting yourself into.

As far as the critics are complaining about plot and character development and emotions: IT’S A MOVIE ABOUT ROBOTS! I didn’t think the plot was that hard to follow. It was ALOT of set up for a 45 minute fight scene. Was it all necessary? Probably not. Made for some cool back story though but I’m not sure I’m better for it. I thought the character’s emotions were right on. Again, the crux of this is on the robots. The people are there to run and scream 🙂
Let’s be honest with what we have here: an over the top summer blockbuster action movie made by Michael Bay so it’s got some goofy shenanigans in it. So it’s a great entertaining break from the heat and they’ll blow up everything in the movie so it’s even more fun to see in the theaters…and by the looks of it, it’ll be there for a while!
