DCLA in Video w/ Family Force 5

DCLA Friday through Saturday.

DCLA here we come!

I lost Wednesday due to a 25 hour train ride to Washington DC but we are here and we are excited to see what God’s bringing to the capital! I can’t believe tomorrow’s Friday and the real fun begins. So stay tuned for fun stuff and updates I’ll be bringing from DCLA this weekend.

What’s DCLA?

Well I’m glad you asked. It’s a student conference that Youth Specialties holds like once every 3 years. This year’s attendance is supposed to be like 9,000. I’m super stoked b/c my main man right now Francis Chan will be bringing it! So my twitter account will be blowing up, facebook getting picture uploads, and I’ll bring as much as I can here to the blog!

If you’re here, please let me know. One of the things I hope to accomplish is some networking. I’ve already met 2 groups coming here to DCLA on the streets as we farted around.

Summer Day Camp Week Recap

Its these 1st through 6th graders that have made this week worth so much to me and many in our group! I couldn’t help but NOT give them some screen time, I mean seriously, who doesn’t like to see their mug up on the big screen!?! Hahaha. Please watch and please pray for these children.

High School Mission Trip Days 1&2 Video!

They say pictures say 1,000 words. Hopefully that’s true because I am wicked tired. So enjoy our montage video of our High school Mission trip to Dallas, TX. We stay at 1st Presbyterian Church in downtown Dallas and visit an outreach center each morning, help with a children’s day camp in the afternoon, and serve the homeless at The Bridge each afternoon.

Much more commentary tomorrow. Sorry, I had to visit the Doc in a Box today and get a shot in my bum, nasal spray, and antibiotics for this viscious sinus infection I have. So far though our students are having an incredible time!

Coldplay Life in New Orleans

I witnessed the best concert I’ve ever been to Tuesday night as the culmination of my 30th birthday surprises ended at the New Orleans arena at the Coldplay concert! The show was moved up to 7pm which was only a half hour earlier than scheduled but seeing how we didn’t get out of there until after 11, I was thankful! This was one of the best line ups I’ve seen:

So we had our fare share of awesome accents – Australian, Irish, and British (actually distinct when you hear them 1 after another and the Irish was the best!) The bands were all talented. I kept telling Rae and Ali, if “they” are this good then Coldplay is going to be NUTS!! And they were!! For one of the world’s biggest rock bands they haven’t lost the ability to connect with members of their audience, even at a huge arena show!

Enough of my jibba jabba. Here are the boys kickin’ it in New Orleans:

Here’s the video that helps that make sense, in case you haven’t seen 1 of the greatest music videos 🙂

iPhoto photo tips and tricks made easy

I spent some time last week putting together a Senior Montage video for our graduates. In doing so, I found some quick easy steps to enhance your photos (and videos) in iPhoto and iMovie. The controls for these 2 applications are smooth and easy to use but as simple as they are, you can still get bogged down and carried away. I find the Enhance feature usually works OK but sometimes it just doesn’t do it.

I found these 3-5 steps can take less than 60 seconds and make a huge difference on your photos or videos:

  1. Saturation: Slide it towards the right to enhance your colors to look full and rich. Don’t worry about if it gets too dark because next:
  2. Level Slider: Slide the middle one to the left to brighten up your photo if the saturation has made it too dark. (It’s the little triangle beneath those 3 colors inbetween 0-100%)
  3. Contrast: Slide it towards the right to enhance focus
  4. Reduce Noise: Slide it towards the right to smooth out any potential rough patches
  5. Sharpness: Slide it towards the right for final edges. It’s like a focused Contrast slider.

So there you go. Have fun and go nuts! I noticed that when projecting something like in church from a projector (espeically a front lit one) that you need to almost need to oversaturate the colors becuase they look much more faded up there than thay do on your LCD computer monitor.

To Beard or Not to Beard, THAT is the Question!

You choose. I’m restless. Apparently there’s a second phase of beard itch that I’ve entered into and can’t decide if it should stay or if it should go:

Wow, if the circus comes to town, I could fill in for the Bearded Woman! Hahaha. Ladies don’t be jealous of my goldy locks 🙂

My Night with Addison Road

Jenny from Addison Road

Last night Addison Road played a show here in Baton Rouge at UBC and selfishly I was so glad it was intimate and low key. I felt a little bad for the band because that place should have been packed out! They were so good live! AND…Momma’s give me a hearty amen here: Jenny was 8 months preggers! I mean SWEET LORD! The girl’s about to pop and she is belting out these songs like nobody’s business. The downside was that under doctor’s orders, their show can only be an hour. I was left wanting so much more!

What was really great is that they really thrived in this environment. By the time the show was done and we went to say Hi, it felt like we already knew them a little bit. Besides being talented musicians, they are really down to earth people that just love playing music!

They played all of their familiar songs from the radio and all the best from the CD except my favorite! Casualties is my favorite for the half time into double time into regular time transition they do after the chorus! I love it but they didn’t play it 😦

Check us out checking out Addison Road. You should do the same!
